In this second case, an AEX extension file is a file created by Alpha Five, a program used to create web applications.

Alpha Five is an application development and database management system (DBMS) for Windows, developed by Alpha Software, Inc.

Noted for its ease of use and rapid application creation, Alpha Five provides high-level predefined scripts for creating desktop and web-based applications.

Alpha Five is also used to build desktop, web, and mobile applications. It has a unique advantage which is writing the code instead of building the app in a code editor.

The AEX file is enabled to store the compiled Xbasic event handler program code, which contains global functions for the application.

This AEX file is referenced as a library by the Alpha Five grid components.
