Open AMR File

AMR file extension is used by Adaptive Muti-Rate audio files that are created by some modern cell-phones. This format was developed by 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for encoding speech. AMR algorithm uses different bitrates to encode audio based on its contents to conserve memory space and bandwidth. Compression schemes include: ACELP, VAD, CNG and DTX. Bitrates can range from 1.8 to 12.2 kilobit per second.

These are several application that can open AMR files and convert them into into more common formats that are supported by mainstream audio players like WinAMP or Windows Media Player. These programs include: Mobile ARM converter, AMR2WAV and RetroCode.
