Open DSN File
DSN files can represent two different applications, namely:
OrCAD Design File
In this application, a DSN file is a printed circuit board, or PCB, created by OrCAD, a program used to design circuits and PCBs.
This DSN file stores the circuit diagram and is usually one of several files included in an OrCAD project, which in turn is identified by the extension OPJ.
DSN files refer to "symbols", which are the electronic components used to make the design.
Open a DSN file as an electronic design
DSN files are usually opened with OrCAD PCB Designer because they are created by the program, however DSN files can also be imported with other programs, such as Altium Designer, which opens them as schematic files using the program's import wizard.
Database Source Name File
As its acronym indicates, the DSN file is a data file used by various database client programs to connect to a database.
The DSN file describes properties such as the name and directory of the data source, the connection handle, the server address, the user ID, and the password.
DSN files are used by ODBC drivers to connect to a specific database, such as a SQL Server or Microsoft Access database.
Additionally, DSN files are usually stored in a plain text file, however some database client programs use Windows registry entries instead of DSN files.
Software to open a DSN file
Once you have determined the type of DSN file format, you must have one of the following software packages:
