An H264 file is a video file encoded with compression using the H.264 protocol, which defines a popular format for high definition video.
H264 is basically a video compression codec that requires a video container to host the encoded video.
This means that H264 files can be of type MP4, AVI or MKV.
This format is very common in camcorders, HDTV, Blu-Ray and DVD.
The H264 codec or MPEG-4 standard defines a type of high compression video, jointly developed by the Video Coding Experts Group belonging to the ITU-T1 and the Moving Picture Experts Group belonging to ISO / IEC.
The objective of the H264 project was to create a standard related to image quality without increasing the complexity of its design.
