Open JP2 File
A JP2 file is a compressed bitmap image created using JPEG 2000 core encoding.
It incorporates a wavelet compression algorithm instead of digital cosine transform (DCT) compression, which is used by standard JPEG images.
More about DWT
The DWT standard compresses by transforming images into wavelet space using the multi-level Discrete Wavelet Transform (hence the acronym).
The algorithm starts by reducing the amount of image information by quantization, to then compress the images in wavelet space.
The compressed image is processed line by line directly from the original image.
The compression technique can compress images of any size using a recursive segmentation algorithm that does not require the use of disk storage while performing the DWT.
JP2 files can be stored using lossy compression and lossless compression, only at the user's choice.
JP2 files also look like JPX files, which is also an extension of the JPEG 2000 file format.
JPX also provides advanced features such as multiple layers for an image, multiple color spaces, opacity, and chunked code streams.
