Open NSF File

NSF files, until now, have two types of differentiated formats, which you will see below:

NES Sound Format File

In this first case, an NSF file is a music file from an original Nintendo (NES/Famicom) game.

The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) is an 8-bit video game console, already discontinued, belonging to the third generation in the video game industry, the first Nintendo home console to use cartridges.

These cartridges were little circuits whose base was an integrated circuit, where both the memory and the processor converged.

The NES was released by Nintendo in North America, Europe, and Australia between 1985 and 1987.

It was replaced, in 1991, by the Super Nintendo Entertainment System or SNES.

The NSF file allows music from Nintendo games to be played without the need to load the actual game.

It can be opened by a variety of NSF players.

It is necessary to note that extracting an NSF file from a cartridge should be done by an expert, as damage to the cartridge may occur.

Lotus Notes Database

In this second case, the NSF file is a database file used by the IBM Lotus enterprise software.

About Lotus Notes

IBM Notes (formerly Lotus Notes) is an email and collaboration client/server software system developed by Lotus Software, a subsidiary of IBM.

The server part is called Lotus Domino, while the client is called Lotus Notes.

It is important to note that Lotus Notes is no longer developed since 2018, being announced by IBM in the End of Support Note.

The NSF extension file is saved in the Notes Storage Facility (NSF) format, which stores data in document units called 'notes'.

The NSF is used to store collaborative business information, such as mail and calendar data.
