Open REDIR File
REDIR files are primarily associated with the GrabIt Usenet client. GrabIt is a freeware, streamlined newsreader used primarily for downloading binary content from Usenet posts. The REDIR file, or GrabIt Batch file, aids in tracking and managing these downloads. Other formats utilizing the extension .REDIR include those involved in webpage redirection.
GrabIt Usage (Usenet)
Associated with GrabIt, a Usenet client, .REDIR file extensions are pieces of batch download information. These files allow the client to download multiple binaries across multiple posts, coordinating and tracking these downloads. The REDIR files aren't designed to be opened manually - GrabIt automatically generates and uses them.
Website Redirection
On occasion, .REDIR file extensions may also be used in situations where one webpage is redirected to another page. In such situations, the .REDIR file may contain the URL of the destination webpage. The user doesn't need to directly open these files; instead, the server and client's web browser handle this automatically. Find more about website redirection on the Mozilla Developer Network's guide to HTTP Redirections.
REDIR File Important Information
Regardless of their use, it's important to remember that REDIR files are not manually accessible, as their content is typically managed by the associated software or browser. Instead, the tools and services that use .REDIR files manage their content. In most cases, there is no need to open or manipulate these files manually, and doing so may cause issues or errors.
