Open TCX File
TCX files can take various formats for different applications, some of them namely:
TestComplete Script Extension Package
In this case, a TCX file is a script extension pack used by SmartBear TestComplete, a program used to automate the testing of an application's UI.
More about TestComplete
It is formed as a functional automated test platform developed by SmartBear Software.
TestComplete gives testers the ability to create automated tests for Microsoft Windows, Web, Android, and iOS applications.
The TCX is basically a container that can contain files used by a script extension, including an XML, VBS and/or JS file, as well as various image formats.
TCX files are compressed in Zip format and can store files for multiple script extensions.
Script extensions add custom functionality to TestComplete in a similar way to plugins but are easier to create in TestComplete.
TCX files allow you to customize the automated tests that can be performed on your application.
Files contained in a TCX
TCX files typically store the following files:
- A description.xml file that contains metadata about the script extensions included in the TCX package.
- VBS or JS script files that contain the actions, operations, and objects that make up the extension.
- AQFRM files that contain information about the forms used by the extension.
- A CHM helper file that is placed in the same folder as the extension when it is installed on TestComplete.
- PNG or BMP files that contain icons for operations and actions.
Opening a TCX file
TCX files are primarily opened in TestComplete when a user imports it into the application.
However, you can also manually open TCX files as they are renamed ZIP files.
To manually open a TCX file, rename the file extension to ZIP, and then you can use one of the following Zip decompression programs:
- Corel WinZip
- Apple Archive Utility
- 7-Zip.
Training Center XML File
In this section, a TCX file is an XML file used to transfer fitness exercise data between fitness devices.
The TCX contains fitness data such as sport type, lap time, distance, calories, intensity and heart rate.
TCX files can be opened with a variety of programs, including Garmin Training Center, Google Earth, and Strava.
They are also compatible with MotionBased.com and the Garmin Communicator plugin.
TurboCAD 3D Model Text File
In the latter case, a TCX extension file is a TurboCAD drawing saved in a text format.
About TurboCAD
TurboCAD is a 2D and 3D drafting CAD design software or application that runs on MacOS and Microsoft Windows operating systems.
The TCX file can contain 2D or 3D model data and is similar to a standard TurboCAD drawing file with the TCW extension, but saved in a text format that can be viewed in a text editor.
The TurboCAD TCX format is equivalent to the AutoCAD file format whose extension is DXF.
