Open VRO File

VRO file extension is used by DVD-VR recorded video files. Video Recording Object, or VRO, files are usually used in conjunction with an associated IFO file, which contains menu, chapter, and timing information. DVD playing software will typically look for an IFO file which gives the location of the VRO file and contains the actual video and audio streams.

VRO files are often used when multiple recording sessions are required on a single disc, and are commonly used by set-top DVD recorders and DV camcorders.

Unlike VOB, VRO files do not contain any menus indicating chapter or scene location, hence cannot be skipped through without an accompanying IFO file. If the extension is changed to MPG, it may be directly readable using video playback or editing software as long as the correct codec is available. However, even though the file extension changes, the contents of the file itself do not. It simply provides a more widely recognized file extension which will allow more software to attempt to open it. Video playback will also be in a continuous stream given that no menu information is embedded in the VRO file itself.

Many video editing applications allow the extraction of video and audio streams from VRO files into standard VOB files, which can then be burnt directly to disc. Menu and chapter information can also be retained as long as the accompanying IFO file is present, though most DVD editing software will allow this to be added manually as and where appropriate.

You can open VRO files by the majority of DVD playing and editing software. Popular applications include CyberLink PowerDVD, InterVideo WinDVD, VLC Media Player and AuthoringWare DVD Integrator. You can also open VRO files and import them using DVD burning software such as Nero, which can then save the file out in another format or burn it directly to disc.
